Statement

The process of my work usually starts with the pottery wheel because I have a fondness for the fluidity of the symmetrical and smooth pieces. From there I hand build to create sculptures out of the wheel thrown pieces. I use my intuition when building these forms because the work comes to life as I change and alter the clay. I then add crude texture around refined bodies. Breaking and melding is a decision I make through my process. My work is ornate, elaborate, and decorative because I am inspired by the Victorian Era. I explore concepts from personal experiences through form and photography. I take self portraits as a way to convey my identity. Cyanotype is a blue print process I use to combine ceramic and photography. The sun exposes the images on bisque fired porcelain leaving the pieces archaic. There is something so beautiful about a photograph permanently etched in clay.
